Once again MINI and its legions of enthusiasts are going all the way, traversing the US of A by driving from sea to shining sea. The iconic British brand is celebrating summer with a cross-country road trip and you’re invited to participate.
MINI Takes the States is a consumer-loyalty event that kicked off late last month in San Francisco. Over the next couple weeks the company and its devotees will drive from the Pacific-coast city all the way to Boston. Of course there will be numerous stops along the way from Grand Junction, Colo. and Austin, Texas to Chicago and Buffalo, New York. The 2014 edition is the fifth bi-annual installment of this road rally.
Naturally, all kinds of other cool and kitschy places are on the itinerary, from historic Route 66 to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with plenty of stops along the way.

The event is open to all current and future MINI owners, though you must have a Cooper to participate. Also, there’s a one-time registration fee of $45 per person. Motorists are encouraged to drive a little or a lot; they can join for a leg or two or go all the way if they’re hard-core MINI-philes.
I’ll be participating in two legs of this rally, driving from the St. Louis, Missouri to Cleveland, Ohio with a layover in Chicago. You can follow my progress on Twitter (@CraigCole) or, of course, by visiting AutoGuide.com. If you’ve got any questions or comments just shoot me a Tweet. Let’s motor!
